Can you imagine sending your son into a situation in which he will be maligned, misunderstood and ultimately, crucified in an excruciatingly painful way? This is the love God has for us; He sent his son to experience life as a human being and to die to save us from our sins!

Can you imagine knowing the suffering you are about to experience, but doing what you are destined to do because of your love for your Father and for all people? This is the love Jesus has for us.

How does this compare to the love we have for each other, not just our family and friends, but everyone? 1 John 4: 7-11 reminds us of the extraordinary love of God, Jesus and what that means for us as their disciples.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us; He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

We often think of love as a feeling, but love is also a choice and an action. Do you display your love for God in the choices you make and the actions you take? How will you share God’s love this Christmas season?
